Solvent Or Water Based Wood Stain?
Well, it's 2017 is already off to a flyer. Our water based wood stain / wood dye is proving highly popular for those new year's resolutions. So many people are getting in touch with us about their new projects, from models of ships to restoring old coffee tables. We love introducing people to our range of colours and, as you can see, we've been hard at work producing our sample blocks.
Dark Walnut has been the most popular colour since the turn of the year. With our Antique Brown Wax complimenting it beautifully, we're working hard just to keep up with demand!
A customer asked us this week why you don't see more water based stains on the marker as opposed to solvent based. He'd been using our product for a number of years and commented on their ease of use.
Not only do water based wood dyes / stains go on much easier (with a cloth or brush), you can also achieve the desired shade with a number of coats whereas, with solvent based, you're pretty much restricted to the shade on the tin. And who enjoys getting solvents out of a paint brush afterwards?! A water based dye rinses straight out.
However, we feel the key benefit to our product is that it is environmentally friendly. A solvent based stain contains around 75 per cent white spirit which gets into the atmosphere and is harmful to crop growth. This is also responsible for the strong scent you get with solvents, as opposed to our odourless water based product. Added to the quicker drying time of a water based dye, it's safe to say he was pretty much sold on the benefits of our wood stain / dye!
Don't forget, you can check out our Help Centre if you have any technical questions on our products but you can always contact us directly if you can't find what you're looking for.
Have a great weekend, folks.
