Littlefair’s Superior Decking Oil Plus ⁺ is an all-in-one oil suitable for use on most exterior wood including pine and cedar cladding, pressure treated wood and decking boards, garden buildings, fences and gates. It is formulated to prevent mould and algae growth. This oil prevents splitting and cracking and will not peel or flake off.
With added UV protection, this oil will bring out the natural colour of the wood and should be tested on a suitable off-cut for colour, compatibility and finish. This oil will have a clear, matt finish once dry.
Preparation
Careful, thorough preparation will result in a far superior finish, especially when applied over our Water Based Wood Dye.
(Please refer to the instructions on the dye).
If you are dying the wood first, the final appearance will be a combination of the wood’s natural colour, the dye and the oil. It is always a good idea to prepare a test piece in exactly the same manner as your project.
Ensure your wood is as clean as possible and free from previous finishes. Do not apply the dye to wet surfaces or if there is a risk of rain or frost.
Application
Apply liberally with a good quality brush or roller. Alternatively, you can thin down the oil with a little white spirit for spraying.
Once the first coat is applied, allow around 45 minutes for the oil to penetrate the wood. Further coats can be applied without waiting for the previous coat to fully dry. Continue to apply until the wood will no longer absorb the oil - at this point, leave to dry for several hours before wiping any excess with a cloth.
If applying over our Water Based Wood Dye - try to apply a thin, even coat as the oil will take much longer to penetrate and dry. When finished, simply clean your equipment with white spirit.
It’s important to note that the final appearance will be a combination of the wood’s natural colour, the effect of the dye (if used) and the oil. With this in mind - always produce a test piece so you can properly judge the result.
