Littlefair’s Superior Worktop Oil will provide a deep penetrating long lasting protection that won’t peel or flake, whilst enhancing the natural colour and beauty of the wood. This oil has a tough natural finish which is excellent for waterproofing our Water Based Wood Dyes.
This oil is a high quality tung-based treatment to be used when preparing wooden worktops prior to installation. It should then be used for continual oiling and maintenance. This oil is also ideal for renovating and repairing older damaged worktops that have been re-sanded.
Preparation
Careful, thorough preparation will result in a far superior finish, especially when applied over Littlefair’s Water Based Wood Dye.
(Please refer to the instructions on the dye).
If you are dying the wood first, the final appearance will be a combination of the wood’s natural colour, the dye and the oil. It is always a good idea to prepare a test piece in exactly the same manner as your project.
Application
We would recommend that you oil new wooden worktops immediately after delivery in a warm, dry place. Most wooden worktops will need a final sanding - start with 150 grit then 180 grit working along the grain.
The more coats you can apply to both sides and edges before installation the better. The oil can be applied with a brush or lint free cloth and you should aim to spread it as thinly and evenly as possible. Dilute the first coat with 25% white spirit. After 10-15 minutes wipe off any excess oil then leave until it feels dry. After three or four coats, very gently sand with 180 grit. This will de-nib any raised grain and create a very smooth surface. After installation, apply further coats to the top surface and edges. When finished, simply clean your equipment with white spirit.
It’s important to note that the final appearance will be a combination of the wood’s natural colour, the effect of the dye (if used) and the oil. With this in mind - always produce a test piece so you can properly judge the result.
